This is a plan for a Christmas assembly on the Annunciation (when Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel), with a focus on promises and trust. There is an attached PowerPoint with the assembly starter and the story of the Annunciation. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves the children discussing promises made by various people in their lives before listening to the story and again discussing. There is a lot of opportunity for children to think about their own experiences and to feedback. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with. All resources needed for the assembly are included. They are in the zip file. These are: 4 page PDF assembly plan 24 slide animated PowerPoint (This is not editable. Click ‘Read Only’ to open. Geography - United Kingdom - 11 day Literacy Plan

This is a plan for KS1 Literacy that I used when we were learning about Britain and Ireland. There are 11 lessons in the Learning Journey that lead towards the children making their own leaflets. The children examine a range of leaflets about the local area so that they develop their awareness of what a leaflet actually is. They then experience different types of information text about the British Isles, with each mixed ability group focussing on a different country or city. Three days are reserved for the children to actually make their own leaflets. We invited year 5 to visit at the end of the topic to read our leaflets and vote about which country they would visit. The children loved that part! The children worked in mixed ability groups and each group at some point had the opportunity to work in the role play corner, where they have to do some independent writing.

Painting Skills - 4 week plan (key stage 2)

This resource is a set of 4 lessons designed to teach painting skills to Lower Key Stage 2, though it could be used for KS1 too. The key skills that are taught include mixing colours to create secondary colours, creating different tones and shades and using shapes and patterns to change the tone of a painting. There are 3 different artists used as inspiration - Mondrian, who uses blocks of colour, Monet, who uses lots of tones and shades and Rembrandt, whose painting of Jesus calming the storm is used to inspire the children’s final pieces of work. The children have the opportunity to work alone and as part of a large group to create a collaborative piece of art on gigantic wallpaper. This was great fun! I have included the powerpoint I used for the series of lessons. There are 3 slides on the first two artists and a slide with Rembrandt’s picture. I have used these plans on several occasions so they are tried and tested!
